Magnificent example of the refined art of Jean/Hans Arp in the last period of his work, in the process of being rediscovered.

“Toward the end of his life Arp published two livres d’artiste, Vers le blanc infini and Le Soleil recerclé ; the great care that
was taken in the publication of the two books, including in their typography and engraving, seems to invalidate Arp’s
claim that his creations were highly spontaneous and that he disregarded esthetics” (Renee Riese Hubert).
(Hubert, Surrealism and the Book, p. 85.- Arntz, Hans Arp Graphische Werk, 1912-1966, nº 405-412.- Garvey & Wick,
The Arts of the French Book, 1900-1965, Dallas, 1967, nº 56 : “Vers le Blanc Infini is an example of the full integration of
design and content possible in a book written and illustrated by the same artist.”- Johnson, Artists’ Books in the Modern Era
1870-2000, nº 138 : “The eight etchings that Arp created to illustrate his own poetry retain the playfulness of his early
Dada work but also an undercurrent of mystery that is characteristic of his surrealist imagery.”).
