Paolo Uccello, St. George and the Dragon 324 by Andy Warhol is one of four screenprints from his 1984 reinterpretation of Paolo Uccello’s Renaissance masterpiece. Warhol tightly crops the original composition. He isolating the young woman at the left edge of the image and the dragon’s sweeping wing and curled horn. Unlike the brighter variations in the series, this version retains a subdued palette. A deep charcoal background contrasts with soft olive greens, pale ivory, and muted gray, while vivid blue and orange accents animate the dragon’s wing. The result is calm yet dramatic, drawing the eye to the elegant contours and intricate textures of Uccello’s design.
