Andy Warhol created his Dollar Sign $ painting as a commentary on the commodification and commercialization of high art. Warhol, who started his career in advertising, was very open about how much he loved money. He once stated that “making money is art, and working is art, and good business is the best art.” Warhol painted a light pink background to emphasize the bold red dollar sign, further accentuated by its green base. Warhol’s Dollar Sign is all a celebration of dollar, an exclamation of his love of money, and a trivialization of what people considered art in a highly commercialized culture.
