David HOCKNEY - Portrait of Richard Hamilton

Original etching and aquatint on Hodgkinson handmade paper. Signed David Hockney bottom right, numbered from the very small limited edition of 30 (there were also 11 artist's proofs). Inscribed Richard Hamilton, Cadagues, 1971 in the plate lower left. Printed by Maurice Payne and published by Petersburg Press, London. Referenced in Scottish Arts Council, 126 and Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo 118. Provenance: Collection of Michael and Megan Dawson.

In very good and bright condition, the sheet slightly unevenly trimmed. We can include framing with this print, please contact us to discuss.

A beautiful, extremely rare and eye-catching David Hockney print, typical of Hockney's intimate portraits of the 1970s when he produced a number of prints of friends and relations in various formats, experimenting with greater realism and natural perspective.

David Hockney and Richard Hamilton were good friends, taking part in protests against the proposed museum admission charges in London in the same year that this portrait was produced. The last photo opposite is Richard Hamilton photographed by Wolfgang Tillmans.
