This etching is based on a performance Francis Alÿs produced with Public Art Fund on the occasion of the Museum of Modern Art’s temporary move to Queens in 2002. About one hundred participants walked from midtown Manhattan to Long Island City carrying effigies of important works by Picasso, Duchamps and others, in a gesture that both celebrated and critiqued the progress of modern art.
